Independent analysis.
Clear accountability.
Independent business valuation support, prepared by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant for an agreed purpose. Assess evidence, assumptions and limitations before relying on a value.
What independent should mean in your engagement
The valuer should be able to reach a conclusion from the relevant evidence rather than work backwards from a desired transaction price. Conflicts and existing relationships need to be considered. Independence also depends on the appointment, the purpose and any applicable requirements; it is not established solely by a website description.
Ask how the conclusion will be supported
A credible explanation connects the method to the business. For a mature trading company, sustainable earnings and comparable evidence may matter. For an asset-holding entity, the relevant asset and liability values may be central. Forecast-based work needs a coherent link between operating assumptions, investment and cash flows.
Evaluate expertise with practical questions
If you are comparing leading business valuation experts, ask who will prepare the work, how the fee is determined, how unfamiliar issues are handled and whether the report is suitable for your purpose. Relevant competence and a transparent scope are more informative than an unsupported ranking claim. We offer a direct discussion about those requirements.
Prepared by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant
Our valuation work is prepared by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant within the agreed engagement. The report should identify its purpose, date, information and important judgements. Professional membership does not mean that ICAEW signs off or certifies an individual value. If a recipient requests a certified valuation, provide their exact requirements before commissioning.
Make uncertainty visible
A useful report can distinguish established facts, management representations and valuation assumptions. A sensitivity range may show how a change in sustainable earnings affects the conclusion, but a wider range is not a substitute for investigating unreliable information. Known gaps and limits should be stated.
UK-wide support, proportionate to the brief
We welcome remote enquiries across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Location does not change the need for relevant evidence or any specialist requirements. Explain your business, decision and intended users so an affordable scope can be considered without removing work essential to the conclusion.
Your enquiry checklist
- Decision, valuation date and intended users
- Existing business relationships and potential conflicts

Questions before commissioning
What is an independent business valuation?
It is an assessment for a defined purpose using relevant evidence and professional judgement, with conflicts, independence requirements and limitations addressed in the engagement.
Can you provide an ICAEW-certified valuation?
The valuation can be prepared by an ICAEW Chartered Accountant. That does not make the individual report certified or approved by ICAEW.
Do you need a local office to value my business?
Many enquiries and document reviews can be handled remotely. Any need for visits or specialist local information is discussed in the scope.
